Learning Designer - Intermediate - Optimism

Auckland Other

About

As an instructional designer or learning designer, are you ready for your next challenge? Perhaps you're feeling uninspired working in the same area, with the same topics, or with the same audience. Or maybe you don't like the politics, or how long it takes to get things done inside a larger organisation.

This is your answer. Imagine working for a learning consultancy where you have ongoing variety through exciting projects for many of New Zealand's leading organisations - and you get to learn what's happening "behind the scenes".

Please note: You must have the right to work in New Zealand on a full-time permanent basis.

Your Opportunity

You'll already know what's important in the design of learning solutions, but you're still teachable and ready to embrace our proven systems and methodologies.

You'd start by storyboarding for a variety of eLearning modules, and working with our digital designers / developers to see your vision come to life.

Coming in at Intermediate level, you'll be “bright, smart and nice” and aspire to become a Senior Learning Partner with our support.

NB. This is not a remote role, we enjoy coming into the office and working together, and you’ll learn faster that way.

Your Experience

Ideally you would have:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in learning and development
  • Proven aptitude for robust, results-driven learning design
  • Experience with eLearning, online or digital learning
  • A range of working experiences (including voluntary, part-time or full-time roles)
  • Experience working in a large organisation
  • A degree or other qualification (but not essential).

We've had great results with L&D people with backgrounds in hospitality, contact centres and similar hands-on high-pressure environments as they often have a pragmatic approach to role-based learning. We also find ESOL teachers particularly good at designing contextual and applied learning.

Your Skills

You would have proven skills in all or most of:

  • Writing simply, clearly and easily - content and objectives
  • Applying instructional principles - regardless of delivery method
  • Structuring content and flow
  • Facilitating, presenting or training - communicating confidently
  • Proofing for layout, spelling and grammar
  • Asking good questions to gain a deeper understanding
  • Building relationships in person and online, via phone and email

Your Personal Qualities

You would also demonstrate qualities of being:

  • Personable and professional
  • Easy to work with
  • Proactive
  • Self-managing and organised
  • Tech-savvy and curious about finding better ways of doing things.
  • And you will want to make a difference through your work.

Our Company

At Optimism, our purpose is to “make it easy for them to be good at it”. Whatever it is they do.

To achieve that, we combine our deep experience in organisational learning and capability with our award-winning expertise in digital learning technologies. We design frameworks, strategies and targeted learning & performance solutions that enable others to perform well in their roles - with measurable results. And we particularly enjoy working with “real people, doing real jobs”.

Apply

If this feels like a good fit for you, please apply via Seek, sending us:

  • a personalised Cover Letter explaining why you'd be a great fit (avoid AI - we want to see your style, not ChatGPT’s)
  • your CV

and ideally

  • a small sample of work showing your instructional design (specifying what you did/didn't do).
