Personalised support to help you become a Chartered Member
Thinking about becoming Chartered but unsure where to start? You’re not alone. Many HR professionals feel unsure about whether they’re ready, how to structure their application, or how to find the time.
Charter Assist is here to help.
This new service is designed to support eligible members through the Chartering process – offering tailored, one-on-one guidance from an HR professional who understands what assessors are looking for. From clarifying requirements to reviewing your CV and prepping for your interview, we’ll guide you every step of the way.
What is Charter Assist?
Charter Assist is a personalised support service designed to guide eligible HR professionals through the Chartered Member application. You’ll receive up to 4 hours of expert assistance from an experienced HRNZ coach to help you:
- Understand what’s required at each step
- Complete the self-assessment
- Develop an executive summary of your experience to support your application
- Select and brief your referees
If you are not ready to become Chartered, your HRNZ coach will offer post-chartering support for up to 12 months, including high level development goals to help you become Chartered ready!

Why become Chartered?
Becoming Chartered is a professional milestone that recognises your impact, credibility, and commitment to excellence in HR. It signals to peers, employers, and the broader business community that you are operating at a strategic level and consistently delivering value.
How this service works
We’ll guide you through each stage of the application process with tailored support, including:
- Kick-off conversation – An HRNZ coach will have an initial conversation with you to review where you’re at and determine whether Charter Assist is right for you.
- Self-assessment meeting – Together, you’ll go through HRNZ’s self-assessment, allowing the coach to gain a deeper understanding of your experience.
- Application preparation – We’ll map your experience to the Chartered Member requirements and plan your application. Your HRNZ coach will provide you with a pack that includes a personalised executive summary aligned to our capability framework.
- Interview preparation – Get tips, confidence, and guidance to approach your assessment interview.
- Referee coordination – We’ll help identify and brief your referees (and contact them on your behalf, if needed).
- Post-assessment support – If you don’t pass the assessment, we’ll create a high-level development plan and continue to support you for up to 12 months.
You will receive clear, practical advice and a plan that works for you.

Maintaining rigorous standards
Let’s be clear – Charter Assist is not a shortcut to Chartered Membership.
All applicants must still meet the same rigorous standards, including:
✔️ Completing the self-assessment
✔️ Passing the Chartered Member assessment interview
✔️ Completing the Te Ao Māori and Code of Practice modules
✔️ Meeting the required CPD points
Charter Assist simply helps you get prepared, organised, and confident for each step of the journey.
Cost:
$675 + GST
Includes up to 4 hours of tailored support.
(Payment is only charged once you’ve completed your formal assessment interview.)
