HRNZ is pleased to partner with Duncan Cotterill to present the fourth instalment of the 2023 HR101 series. Helen Pryde (Senior Associate) and Caitlin Sargison (Senior Solicitor) will be running an informative “how to” session on workplace investigations, broadly covering the following:
- Assessing when an investigation is required.
- Deciding on an internal or external investigation.
- How to manage an investigation process from start to finish.
- How to manage difficult scenarios during an investigation.
- Common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Attendees will leave this session more confident in running HR process with employees on this topic and managing legal risk to their businesses.

Presenter Details
Helen Pryde
Helen has expertise across all legal issues relating to health and safety and employment, including WorkSafe investigations and prosecutions, performance management, disciplinary matters and processes (with a particular expertise where issues may overlap with criminal law), restructuring and redundancy, restraints of trade, medical incapacity, and dealing with personal grievances. Helen has significant dispute resolution experience and regularly represents clients at mediation and in court. She is also an accredited mediator and undertakes independent investigations into workplace issues.
Caitlin Sargison
Caitlin is a Senior Solicitor in the Employment and Health and Safety team at Duncan Cotterill. She works closely with employer clients – both large organisations and small businesses – to advise on a range of matters including disciplinary and performance processes, maintaining ongoing employment relationships, and assisting with the defence of Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court claims. Caitlin also has experience assisting employee clients in raising concerns and negotiating exits and settlements.
