Course Overview

Courageous conversations are the important—and often difficult—conversations we tend to delay, avoid, or approach with good intentions only to face unintended consequences.

This course equips HR professionals to confidently navigate the challenging people focused conversations at the heart of our work, from change discussions and performance feedback to complex employment relations matters.

Our aim is to grow your confidence and capability to lean into these conversations with intention and skill, rather than languishing or leaping into them unprepared.

What to expect:

This interactive workshop covers:

The complexities of communication and conflict within the Aotearoa/New Zealand context

Understanding your own conflict triggers, honing your own response strategies, and learning how to subtly support in managing their reactions and emotions.

The key success factors of courageous conversationists

How to create and hold the space for mana-enhancing, challenging dialogue

Practical techniques for managing high emotion in the moment.

A toolkit of proven tools and approaches, including delivering hard news, giving constructive feedback, speaking up and voicing challenging opinions, addressing non–values aligned behaviours, and saying ‘no’ and holding clear boundarieswhile still collaborating effectively.

Participant-driven strategy development using customised, scenario-based activities.
