What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?
I have had an interesting career pathway, I have worked in a medical laboratory managing 40 staff, to supporting Boards, to being an Executive Assistant to a range of executives. Over the last few years I have now narrowed my focus and found my place in HR. I have experienced bullying at a previous workplace and want to be a part of the solution in creating safe work environments.
What do you love about working in HR?
I have a passion for helping people and in HR it’s all about the people. I like thinking of how we can make pathways for growth, making the organisation culture a focus and being a part of making the organisation a place people want to work for. I enjoy the challenges HR can bring and being able to support people.
What is an achievement so far in your career that you are proud of?
The relationships and trust I have built. I am very lucky to have left each organisation I have worked for with friends and a strong network of people.
What are your thoughts on the Accredited Professional Member process?
Sometimes your mind is so set on developing people and the organisation that it’s great to have a clear accreditation process focused on development of HR professionals and a clear pathway.
Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?
I want to continue to learn and develop, so yes becoming a Chartered Member is in the future.
What are your next steps in terms of your career?
Continuing to lean into challenges.
