We've got an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced People and Performance Partner to join our team here at New Plymouth District Council.
This is a permanent, full-time role where you'll take the lead on delivering our strategic HR priorities and programmes. You'll be working alongside leaders across the organisation, providing expert advice and support to help lift performance at every level - from individuals to teams to the whole Council.
We're after someone who's not just great with people but also brings a sharp strategic mind and a proactive approach. You'll be part of a fun, down-to-earth team that works hard, supports each other, and knows how to have a laugh along the way. A good sense of humour is essential - because we reckon work should be enjoyable too.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua:
- Build strong relationships with assigned business areas and work in partnership with leaders in the business to drive people capability and improve business performance through proactive HR support
- Achieve required outputs/outcomes to ensure consistent and effective levels in the delivery of services to customers
- Actively participate in the delivery of HR or organisational projects and initiatives that support a high-performance culture
- Ensure HR policies and practices are aligned with the organisations strategic goals
- Provide specialist advice and support on HR practices, procedures, policies, and systems including remuneration and industrial relations
- Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation
Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako:
- Relevant HR degree or diploma, or other relevant qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in a broad generalist HR or related role encompassing learning and development, recruitment, project and change management, coaching on performance, industrial relations, employment relations, remuneration and organisational development activities
- Able to challenge 'mental models' in a positive and constructive way, through negotiation and influencing skills
- Sound knowledge and understanding of New Zealand employment legislation
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships.
- Strong organisational skills
- Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Products - particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- HBDI Certification preferred; familiarity or working knowledge also considered

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $111,531 - $120,204.
