I’m Bernadette King — Director, People, Culture & Safety at King & Co and a Chartered Member of Human Resources New Zealand.
Over many years I’ve led HR and health & safety in a wide range of organisations in New Zealand and Australia from start-ups and manufacturing to primary industry and safety-critical operations. I bring board-level governance experience alongside hands-on HR delivery.
My strengths are practical, strategic and outcome-focused. I specialise in: building end-to-end HR frameworks and people systems; workforce planning and talent pathways; management coaching and capability uplift; recruitment and selection; employment relations and complex people conversations; along with integrated health & safety for high-risk environments. I’ve coached leaders, developed HR teams into trusted business partners, and helped organisations align people and strategy so teams are safer, more engaged and more productive.
As a mentor I’m warm, direct and action-oriented. I’ll listen, ask the right questions, and help you shape pragmatic, step-by-step plans you can implement immediately. I value confidentiality, cultural awareness (informed by Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti learning), and measurable outcomes. My approach blends coaching, practical tools, templates and honest feedback which is tailored to where you’re at and where you’d like to get to.
