Distinguished Fellowship is the highest honour HRNZ can bestow, recognising a lifetime of contribution to HRNZ and exceptional impact on the growth and practice of management, performance, development and leadership of people at work across Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Distinguished Fellows are recognised by the post-nominal DistFHRNZ.
What is Distinguished Fellowship?
Distinguished Fellow status is conferred by the HRNZ Board on Chartered Fellows who have demonstrated outstanding contribution to the profession. There is not an application process. Distinguished Fellows are nominated and recommended by Regional Committees or other Committees empowered to consider these matters.
This recognition confirms you have achieved the ultimate level of professional excellence, demonstrating exceptional leadership, sustained impact, and extraordinary contribution to HR practice in New Zealand.
Who can be considered for Distinguished Fellowship?
Distinguished Fellowship is reserved for the most exceptional practitioners in our profession. To be considered, you must:
- Be a current Chartered Fellow (CFHRNZ) in good standing
- Have made an outstanding contribution to HRNZ and/or to the growth or practice of management, performance, development and leadership of people at work
- Be recommended by a Regional Committee or any other Committee empowered to consider these matters.

The Nomination and Conferral Process
Distinguished Fellowship is not an application process. The designation is conferred by the HRNZ Board based on recommendations from Regional Committees or other Committees empowered to consider these matters.
If you believe a Chartered Fellow has made an outstanding contribution worthy of Distinguished Fellowship, please contact your Regional Committee or HRNZ National Office to discuss the nomination process.

All nominations for Distinguished Fellow status are treated in the strictest of confidence. Information is shared only with relevant committees and the Board for the purpose of assessment.
