At HRNZ, we’re committed to creating a more personalised experience for every member. There is a lot happening across HRNZ, from professional development and events to Regional and Special Interest Networks, and we want to make it easier for the right opportunities to reach the right people.
That is why we’re pleased to introduce Tō Ara, your new weekly HRNZ update. Tō Ara means “Your Path”, reflecting our commitment to supporting each member’s unique professional journey.
From September, Tō Ara will bring together the opportunities, events and professional development information most relevant to you in a single email. It is part of HRNZ’s wider strategy to deliver a more personalised member experience and will replace multiple event updates with a tailored weekly communication.
A new approach to your weekly update
Tō Ara will be sent every Tuesday, replacing our current Monday Regional Events email. It brings everything you need for your professional development into one weekly digest. Inside you’ll find your current Professional Accreditation status, CPD point progress, and an overview of the upcoming events and courses most relevant to you.
Tō Ara will be worth a scroll through each week. While we will continue to promote some key events separately, others may only appear in your personalised update.
What determines what you receive?
Tō Ara will draw on several parts of your HRNZ profile.
Your region
Regional Network events will be selected according to your home region, helping you keep across opportunities to connect with the HR community in your area.
Your Special Interest Networks
HRNZ members will see upcoming events from the Special Interest Networks they belong to.
Your professional development interests
Courses and professional development events will be based on the Domains of HR Knowledge you select in your self-assessment, so you’ll see opportunities that are more relevant to the HR areas you want to develop.

From time to time, we will also highlight key HRNZ events and opportunities that we think you should know about.
Make sure your profile is up to date
The information in your HRNZ profile will shape what appears in Tō Ara. Before the new email launches, there are two things worth checking:
1. Complete or update your self-assessment
Your selected Domains of HR Knowledge will help us show you professional development opportunities relevant to the areas you want to develop.
2. Check your home region
Make sure your home region is up to date so we can include Regional Network events relevant to you.
3. Join Special Interest Networks
Join the special interest networks that match your interests to see relevant events from these networks.
What happens next?
A lot of work and testing has gone into building Tō Ara, and we’re looking forward to seeing it land in inboxes from 1st September.
Tō Ara will be a curated selection, not the full picture. The HRNZ website will remain the place to explore everything happening across HRNZ, including our full range of resources, events, courses and professional development opportunities.
