Payroll Specialist

We’re looking for a detail-driven Payroll Specialist to join our team and take ownership of delivering accurate and timely payroll services. This is a part-time role for 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

This role would suit someone who is comfortable working at the intersection of payroll, timesheets, and finance systems — not just processing pay, but ensuring the data, coding, journals, and reconciliations are right.
Responsibilities:
- End-to-end payroll processing with a focus on accuracy and compliance
- Interpreting legislation, awards, and employment agreements
- Managing employee payroll queries with professionalism and care
- Maintaining payroll records, reporting, and reconciliations
- Collaborating with People & Capability, Finance, and external stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes and systems
What you’ll bring:
- 5+ years’ payroll experience, ideally in an end-to-end payroll role
- Strong working knowledge of the Holidays Act 2003 and related NZ payroll legislation
- Experience with Datapay Enterprise is essential
- Experience with Business Central, Solar, (our HRIS) or similar systems is highly desirable
- Confidence preparing payroll journals, reconciling payroll data, and working with general ledger coding, cost centres, project/job coding, or similar finance processes
- Strong excel and data accuracy skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve system or data discrepancies
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to meet payroll deadlines
- Accounting, finance, or payroll qualification experience would be an advantage
