About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services within our Human Resources team.

Reporting to the Acting Human Resources Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring payroll processing runs smoothly, with a strong focus on data integrity, customer service, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Process fortnightly payroll accurately and on time using Datapay
  • Maintain payroll data integrity and ensure compliance with NZ legislation and Council policies
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a timely, professional manner
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues
  • Analyse payroll data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement
  • Support reporting, reconciliations, and audit activities
  • Support system enhancements and process improvements, including working with Datapay
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external providers

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a proactive, customer-focused mindset. You will also have:

  • 3–5 years’ payroll experience, ideally in a medium to large organisation
  • Sound understanding of NZ payroll legislation, including Holidays Act requirements
  • Experience using Datapay (or similar payroll system)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confident communicator with a customer-focused approach
  • Relevant qualification or working towards one (e.g. NZPPA) is desirable
  • Local government or public sector experience is beneficial but not essential
