About the Role

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a diverse business in a competitive private enterprise environment. We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner who thrives in a fast-paced, fun but productive workplace, enjoys working autonomously, and brings a strong generalist HR skillset.

This role is ideal for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and a sensible approach to managing workplace issues. Rather than taking an adversarial stance, you will focus on coaching, guiding, and supporting leaders to achieve positive outcomes while mitigating organisational risk.

Reporting directly to the Owner/Group Managing Director, you will play a key role in delivering strategic people initiatives while also leading day-to-day HR operations and the HR support team across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Help leadership with workforce planning, leadership coaching and restructuring.
  • Coach managers to build confidence in managing people issues effectively and fairly.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employment agreements.
  • Lead a small HR team to deliver effective and responsive HR support across our business nationwide.
  • Lead recruitment activities, including workforce planning, advertising, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Support and lead organisational change processes, restructures, and consultation activities where required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and systems to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary investigations, performance management, grievances, and mediation processes.
  • Provide day-to-day HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand employment legislation and company policies.

What You'll Bring

  • At least five years' experience in a senior generalist HR role.
  • A relevant qualification in Human Resources or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Strong working knowledge of New Zealand employment law and employment relations practices.
  • Proven experience managing complex employee relations matters from start to finish.
  • Confidence handling difficult conversations with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgement.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Experience in the private sector is preferred but not essential.

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to our success — you’re not a cog; you are part of the wheel. Feel like you have contributed every day.
  • A varied broad role where no two days are the same.
  • High levels of autonomy and accountability.
  • Direct access to executive leadership and decision-makers in a prompt decision-making environment.
  • A supportive team environment with flexible working time (office-based role).
  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact on people, processes, and workplace culture.
  • Be part of our success in progressing our team members.
  • Based in an easy location in modern offices, including parking.

If you're a practical, hands-on HR professional who enjoys partnering with profit-centre leadership and delivering exceptional HR support, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications close on 31 July 2026. To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter. We encourage you to use your cover letter to tell us about yourself, your experience, and what makes you a great fit for the role.

To be considered, you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. The successful applicant will also be required to complete Ministry of Justice, Police, and New Zealand Defence Force vetting checks.
