We have an opportunity for an experienced human resources practitioner to lead our people and culture function, bringing HR best practice to our growing organisation. This is a new position and an opportunity for an innovative practitioner to make a lasting impact. 

Wellington City Mission has been working in, and for, the Wellington Community since 1904. We help people in need by providing transitional housing, social work and addiction support, financial mentoring, food, and somewhere to come for company. We can only do what we do because we have a team of more than 200 capable and committed people working with us! 

As General Manager People and Culture you will champion HR best practice, supporting people leaders to lead well. You will also develop and maintain HR practices and processes to ensure that our people are engaged, productive, safe and well, and are developing their capability and careers. As a member of the senior leadership team you will bring a people and culture lens to the direction and operations of Wellington City Mission. 

To be the right person for this position you will – 

  • Be an experienced human resources manager or senior adviser 
  • Have worked across the full range of HR functions
  • Be able to lead a small team 
  • Be familiar with New Zealand employment law and practice
  • Be an innovator with a ‘we can always do better’ mindset
  • Be able to work with a demographically and culturally diverse workforce
  • Understand the drivers of social disadvantage
  • Believe that life can be better than it is for the people we serve!
