Associate HR & Employment Relations Consultant

Auckland Consultant

About

The HR Department is an established HR and Employment Relations consultancy supporting SMEs that don’t have in-house HR. After 19 years of growth built on referrals and reputation, we’re looking for one or two experienced consultants to join the practice on a contract-for service basis, with a genuine pathway toward a stake in the business for the right person.

The work covers the full ER spectrum: disciplinary, performance and investigation processes; restructures and change; employment agreements and policy; confidential 360 reviews; HR strategy; manager coaching on NZ employment law; workshop facilitation; and acting as advocate or support person in disciplinary meetings, personal grievances and mediations.

You’ll be confident handling the full range of ER matters, as workloads shift and work is shared across the team. We’re particularly keen to hear from consultants who also bring a specialist strength that complements our existing capability, such as workplace investigations (licensed, or willing to become licensed), restructuring and change, or personal grievance and mediation work.

What you’ll gain:
• A steady stream of client work from an established referral network
• A proven brand with marketing and client systems already in place
• The opportunity to earn well, with flexibility over your workload
• Collegial support on complex matters, and genuine leave cover
• A real pathway toward ownership as the relationship develops

You’ll bring:
• Sound, current knowledge of NZ employment law and procedural fairness
• Broad, hands-on ER experience across the full range of matters, ideally with an area you particularly excel in
• High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly with business owners and staff alike
• Clear, careful written communication
• A base in or within easy reach of Auckland

To apply, email your CV and a short cover note to [email protected] by Friday 20 November 2026.
