Principle Consultant:  Michelle Shields, PhD Psychology, specializing in human resource development, MS in Organisational Development, specializing in change management, and BS in Management specializing in the fine arts. 

Management Consultant:  John Shields, Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, 40 years’ experience in management of research and development and new product introduction. 

Statistical Consultant:  Julianne Shields, Master of Science, specializing in Statistics and four-year’s experience in statistical research methods. 

Since immigrating to New Zealand from Scotland, Canada and the US, the group has gained New Zealand specific Industry experience in telecommunications research and development, airline and air traffic control leadership and new product introduction, tertiary and executive education teaching, health care management, and agriculture research and development leadership.

Describe your product or service and what it delivers

As a team of HR, Product Development and Data Analysts, Fulcrum Associates provides you with the tools you need to leverage your individual, team and organisational strengths.  


What size business or organisation does your product/ service suit?

Our strengths lie in working with medium (50 – 1000) and large organisations.  Industries we’ve worked with:  telecommunications, aviation, education, health care and agriculture.


What kinds of organisations may be interested in your product/ service?

Organisations who are growing their leadership talent, looking to introduce new ways of working and those working with teams to build strong foundations built on shared understanding of company direction and purpose. 


How long has your product/ service been on the market?

Fulcrum Associates was established in 2013.  New services in Extraordinary Leadership were added in 2009, and Culture by Design, Pro Sci Change Management and Deeper signals team development were added in 2022.


What does your standard product cost?

Course design:  3 hours per 1 hour of delivery @ 110 per hour 

Course and workshop delivery:  2800 per day or 1200 per half day 

One-to-one coaching and 360 feedback:  $200 per hour 


Are there annual licensing costs? How are these structured?

Yes, depending on the diagnostic and workshop tools used there are one-off fees for assessments, and use of copy-write simulations.  Licensing costs are paid for by the consulting group and covered as part of the consulting, design and delivery fees. 


Is your product an off the shelf solution, or does it require customisation?

All work is customized but individual and team-based diagnostics are licensed instruments that are ‘off the shelf’ and customized in delivery.  All products used are available through the organisation’s certification and licensing approvals.  All workshops are customized to meet the client’s desired outcomes agreed through entry consultations with key stakeholders.


How long does your product take to implement? How does customisation impact this?

A one-off engagement for a workshop requires 6 – 10 weeks to implement 

Extraordinary Leadership 360 feedback, goal setting:  6 – 12 weeks 

Change management support:  6 – 12 months 

All services are customized based on intake consultations with the client which may include data gathering of base-line data and needs assessment.  When one-to-one interviews are used for diagnostics this may add 4 weeks to the project.


What is your post-implementation support? Are there costs to this or is the up-front cost inclusive of additional support?
  • 360 Feedback strengths-based learning options for 2 and 3 hour webinar peer-to-peer coaching 

  • Pre and post-evaluation surveys for measurement of impact for change efforts 

  • Post-event action planning for building engagement and implementing team-based process improvement 

  • Pulse-checks as needed for leadership development effectiveness and improvement

  • Costs are arranged up-front
