About the role:
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be focused on driving the high-level strategic direction of the people experience at Selwyn District Council. You will achieve this by ensuring clarity and purpose are well understood through a simple and well-articulated vision for our kaimahi | staff. This will be facilitated through the people team members but owned by all our people leaders across Council.
You will also get the opportunity to create and lead our new People Strategy, one that supports the rapid growth of our organisation and that directs and empowers our employee experience.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage our People Team to deliver people services and initiatives aligned with our strategic objectives ensuring our organisation and our people performance is successful
- Create, manage and implement a range of strategies, plans, frameworks and tools that develop the capability of our kaimahi, manage talent and increase organisational capacity, positioning us as an employer of choice.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders that help support a culture that develops future leaders, supports future ways of working, meets the needs of our kaimahi, and achieves strategy and business plan targets.
- Lead a business partnering model that facilitates the provision of valuable people support and advice, that educates the organisation on core people processes.
- Lead the continuous improvement of employment brand/experience through effective and efficient people processes, functions, tools, and frameworks that enable and empower individuals to perform successfully in achieving SDC's goals and objectives.
- Ensure the people function is future proof and aligned to the needs of SDC by continually reviewing and monitoring the needs of the organisation.
- Provide training and coaching to the ELT, leaders, and managers to support their growth and to ensure they feel confident recruiting, developing, managing, and rewarding their kaimahi and growing the overall capability of SDC.
- Maintain and foster a positive working relationship with Union(s) representing SDC kaimahi.
About you:
We are looking for a strategic leader with growth mindset. A great communicator, someone that can present to council, governors, and our community, whilst also having the ability to engage in warm, welcoming conversation with our people.
You will have extensive experience in human resources and organisational development, where you have worked in a large and complex organisations, leading teams to achieve organisational goals/objectives within a values-based framework.
You will also have:
- A Tertiary qualification in HR/OD or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to establish a position as a trusted advisor for senior managers
- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively and leading significant organisational and cultural change initiatives
- Sound negotiation experience in particular negotiating with Unions
- Change management experience, leading significant change management processes.
- Experience working in a local/central government environment
- Experience in developing significant organisation-wide strategies, policies and plans.
- Project management experience
